The Mite    (Mite Control In Mitcham)

• Parasitic.

• Can quickly multiply into thousands.

• Bird mite and rodent mite are most  common in homes.

• Most active at night, in warm and damp conditions.

Poultry, wild birds and rodents are the original hosts by which mites enter property.

Once inside they can infest warm bedrooms and damp areas such as bathrooms.

Property entry points:

Initial entry may be on host poultry, birds or rodents which enter or nest near the property, or pets.

If the original host is no longer present (died in chimney/roof space, etc) they will seek a new blood

source and can then bite humans.

Significance to humans:

• Can quickly reproduce to major infestation.

• Once a major infestation is established, it is very difficult to completely eradicate the pest.

• Rarely transmit diseases

A mite infestation will require a step by step process.

There is no quick fix.

We trace and eliminate the original source or access point; set bait traps for mice and rats to eliminate the host by which mites entered.

Identify the type of mite to treat it appropriately, and as they are nearly microscopic in size and difficult to differentiate we may need to refer a sample to our specialist in mite taxonomy.

Mite type specific sprays and insecticides are normal treatments.

Ultimately, due to their size, it may be impossible to completely seal your premises from them.

Guidelines to prevent infestation:

Keep all foodstuffs sealed from rodents, clean cupboards and awkward corners to prevent nesting.

Clear overhanging branches, nests in or on your property.

Vacuum regularly but note that mites will not be killed by this process and may re-enter unless vacuuming bags are frozen or cleared from the property immediately.
