The Wasp (Wasp Control In Mitcham)

•Adult worker wasps have black and yellow band patterning on their abdomen.

•Length is between 15-20mm long

•Have black head and thorax.

•Fore and hind wings are held together by a row of minute hooksgiving the appearance of only one wing per side of the wasp.

•The wings are heavily veined.

•Holes in the ground.

•Lofts and eves.

•Wasps are social insects living in colonies.

•The queen overwinters then early summer comes out of hibernation.

•Having been previously fertilised she starts to build a small nest made from saliva and wood making a paper material.

•She lays her first few batch of eggs and tends to them until they become independant.

•These wasps are sterile female workers and play no part in the breeding programme.

•The Queen continues laying eggs whilst the workers look after them.

•Towards the end of the season around September/October the Queens eggs create new Queens and males (Drones).

•These new wasps will breed with other colonies.

•The original Queen and the sterile workers die off off.

•Then so the cycle repeats the following year.

•Colonies can reach 700 to 7000.

Obvious Signs:

•Wasp traffic.

•Noise and heat within walls.

•Wasps cause alarm when in large numbers.

•Can inflict pain and multiple stings.

•Very dangerous even fatal to anyone who has an adverse effect such as Anaphylactic shock.

•Do not attempt to treat yourself.

•Powder and wet insecticide applications

•Spray can if found very early but not recommended by a non professional.
